hi fionna,

a PhD is research based doctorate degree,  this is more of an academic degree. Dpsych is a clinical practice based doctoral degree, this is more of a professional degree.

hope that wasnt too brief.

icic... I roughly know about that. Now I have another question. I have obtained my master degree in clinical psychology in Malaysia. I was wondering what is the general intake criteria for both PhD and DPsych. How would I know if the university recognised my master degree? ;-) Thanks for the reply!

The first thing to do is just check out universities where you might be interested in going, look at the program online through their website.  Always check to make sure that the program is APA approved - while this is not required, it helps greatly.

Here's accredited programs A-L:

http://www.apa.org/Ed/accreditation/clinpsyal.html

And M-Z:

http://www.apa.org/Ed/accreditation/clinpsymz.html

Those listings can give you an idea of what programs you may want to check out.  Then look at their websites, request information about the program, the faculty, how they handle practicums and such.  And decide which program is the best fit for you.

And some info from the Society of Clinical Psychology:
