Job Outlook
« on: September 23, 2009, 04:20:40 AM »
:-\ So Im a little worried. I am majoring in psychology and am due to graduate in 2012 with my bachelors degree. I was wonder what the job outlook would be for me and if anyone thinks that I should go straight on and get my masters. I am planning on getting my masters anyway. What kind of jobs would I be able to get with a B.S. in psychology? I'm worried about money as well and how I would pay to get through school. And if having a job related to psychology would be too much to handle while getting my masters if one is possible to get at all.

It depends on where you live.

Where I live, there are no jobs available for Psychology B.S.

All of my time in college is ideally worthless.

I'd definitely recommend getting a graduate degree.  Even though there are a lot of jobs you could be qualified for by education, many will often also require additional licensure, certification or job experience.  Also, if you are concerned about pay, many of the jobs don't pay all that well although many are close to the national mean of of ~$30,000 annually.

Graduate education will not only greatly improve your chances of finding a job but also the annual salary.

in the UK the number of jobs in psychology is a fraction of the ammount of people who graduate in psychology.

well same is the case in India....
the lack of awareness is a big issue , also the social taboo attached to it...
more of the problem are suppressed or diverted after trying to exchanging it with
family n friends, who also share the subjective line of thinking
I have been thinking for a long time , do have to wait for time to take its course
or can we play a healthy role in bringing awareness....
Healthy body needs a healthy mind too........
though being religious or spiritual gives u strngth to deal with the issue
but doesnt operate n dissolve the problem,.........
so..........
though psychology has a huge potential in general apart from critical disorder...
its a sleeping elephant, intelligent but job less :)

I'm back. I am actually going to graduate in December of 2011. I'm definitely going to graduate school. I feel that I am more prepare to go now than ever. All of the schools I'm looking to attend now only accept students in the Fall. I guess I'll take that time to build my resume if possible. I'm definitely more confident in my skills than the last time I posted. I would like to ask everyone what they did or are doing for school and where are you now in your career.
