Idol and So You Think You Can Dance contestants
« on: February 11, 2010, 02:57:09 AM »
Why is it that the narcissistic over-confident contestants are all duds and never make it to the second round, and yet all the contestants that are modest about their talents nearly always seem to go through? I guess right everytime when they are interviewed before they go on stage whether they make it or not.

Because such shows pander to the dreams of the narcissistic viewers who identify with and applaud such displays of intellectually impecunious behavior.  These people love to see the underdog excel because they feel that they are better than them, which in turn bolsters their own self-significance.

Jesus of Nazareth once said, famously,:
"34.Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.  35.For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's, the same shall save it.  36.For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
- Mark 8:34-36

Makes you realize just how many narcissitic people there are out there.

haha you guys are overanalyzing it... It is not a matter of attitude, it is a matter of skill. If you have the skill enough to win the idol, then, you win, no matter your attitude.

Of course thats obvious. To put it simply, Im querying why the ones with skill do not love themselves as much as the ones that have no talent yet think they are the worlds best dancers. Just once I would love to see a contestant that has great skill and is also narcisssistic and self worshipping. It seems to be very rare.
