"one less enemy is another possible friend.  after all, all things fade in time. old grievances will lay forgotten, and the world will keep moving on...besides, being angry at someone is stressful and tiring, id rather have the chance to relax, take a nap or something, without that shadow on my mind."

just something i told a friend yesterday about reconciling with someone.
then she told me to stop being such a philosophical dork XP

a quote i thought relevant to my countries current political wranglings.

'It is only through the influence of individuals who can set an example and whom masses recognize as their leaders that they can be induced to perform the work and undergo the renunciations on which the existence of civilization depends. All is well if these leaders are persons who possess superior insight into the necessities of life and who have risen to the height of mastering their own instinctual wishes. But there is a danger that in order not to lose their influence they may give way to the mass more than it gives way to them, and it therefore seems necessary that they will be independent of the mass by having means to power at their disposal.' Sigmund Freud

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

God I love Timothy Leary

"A thought on tripping: For most people it's a life-changing shock to learn that their everyday reality circuit is one among dozens of circuits which, when turned on, are equally real, pulsing with strange forms and mysterious biological signals...since psychedelic drugs expose us to different levels of perception and experience, use of them is ultimately a philosophic enterprise, compelling us to confront the nature of reality and the nature of our fragile, subjective belief systems. We discover abruptly that we have been programmed all these years, that everything we accept as reality is just social fabrication."

"People use the word "natural" ... What is natural to me is these botanical species which interact directly with the nervous system. What I consider artificial is 4 years at Harvard, and the Bible, and Saint Patrick's cathedral, and the sunday school teachings."
LSD: Methods of Control (1966)

"[W]e always have urged people: Don't take LSD unless you are very well prepared, unless you are specifically prepared to go out of your mind. Don't take it unless you have someone that's very experienced with you to guide you through it. And don't take it unless you are ready to have your perspective on yourself and your life radically changed, because you're gonna be a different person, and you should be ready to face this possibility."
Documentary CBC: "How To Go Out of Your Mind: The LSD Crisis" (1966)

As quoted in Cosmic Trigger : Final Secret of the Illuminati (1993) by Robert Anton Wilson, p. 170
"Our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos...Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities — the political, the religious, the educational authorities — who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing — forming in our minds — their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable open-mindedness, chaotic, confused vulnerability to inform yourself."

"If you are serious about your religion, if you really wist to commit yourself to the spiritual quest, you must learn how to use psychochemicals. Drugs are the religion of the twenty-first century. Pursuing the religious life today without using psychedelic drugs is like studying astronomy with the naked eye because that's how they did it in the first century A.D., and besides telescopes are unnatural."

A democracy is always temporary in nature;
it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.
A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover
that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.
From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates
who promise the most benefits from the public treasury,
with the result that every democracy will finally collapse
due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship

- Alexander Tytler 1787

Luke 16:19-31  (please also see Matthew 6:19-21)
-----------------------
"There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

"The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

"But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.'

"He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.'

"Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.'

" 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'

"He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' "

And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.
And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.
And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.
(Revelation 18:1-5)

I still love this quote by Timothy Leary posted by Enigma.  I didn't comment on it at the time when it was first posted, but it's nevertheless a fucking good quote.  Particularly the part I bolded, IMO.

agreed, i would like to bold my favourite part of this quote too.

if more people could only recognise how true this was.... we could change the world just by thinking about it. maybe we already can, maybe we already do, perhaps we just dont realise how powerful we all are.

In keeping with the "stage" theme, here is something I wrote a while back (though it is largely just a paraphrasing of a section of Swami Vivekananda's lecture on Gnana Yoga):

"There are two men. One is a poor beggar and the other is a wealthy actor playing a poor beggar. Now, both of them may look the same in their role as a beggar, both of them may act the same, both of them may say the same things to others and beg for the same thing. Both might even occupy the very same unforgiving streets. But there is one difference. The one, the beggar, feels deep down inside that this is his lot in life. That he is the object of the scorn and disdain of others. He feels confined by his beggary, as a mouse in a trap. It is his life and there is no denial or escape. The other, however, the actor, he takes pride in his role as the beggar. He sees that his beggary is but an act, a fantasy. He has very much delved into the life of being a beggar, and has acted as one would act within that life, but it is not his life, in no way. He does not claim the beggary as his own. He is not attached, even while in it, to the life of poverty of the beggar."

Here's a short poem I wrote to a while  back to that effect:

Don't Give Up
-----------------
Two dragons fought to claim the throne,
The victor got to gnaw on the bones
Of the loser, who, pierced by a brand,
Arose then fell and could no longer stand.

Battered and beaten, torso gone,
The loser crawled away to die alone,
But death and mercy hid right then,
Our loser lived to fight again.

Mastering his mind in silent dedication
Our loser learned the art of regeneration.
Biding his time with the patience of stone
Our loser only dream't to be on the throne.

So one day while the King was unprepared
Our loser caught him by the throat and teared.
Now here's a song we all can sing:
"Our loser now became the King!"
