I'd pick the name Bang because it both describes my life and how I want to end said life.

If the Andromeda galaxy is approximately 2.5 million light years away (i.e., you would have to travel at a speed of 186,000mi/sec for a duration of 2,500,000 years) from our Milky Way galaxy, and Andromeda is the NEAREST galaxy to us, how significant does Earth seem in comparison?

Earths significance is relative to your perspective. Andromeda is very far away from our galaxy, but that could be a good thing in some ways. If humans are going to "colonize " other planets we need to grow as a species. Look at our past efforts at colonization. Rape and piliage, enslave the people who already live there. Force our beliefs on them and destroy their culture. Haveing any other potentialy habitable planet that far away is probably a good thing. We can't even make peace with each other. So how are we going to approach another race? Look at our movies and how violent they are. Kill the Aliens! Even Star Trek had armed ships doing battle. No wonder if extraterrestrials do exist? Which I believe they do. They are reluctant to contact us directly. However if we as a race don't destroy ourselves first I believe we will break the barrier of faster than light travel. Currently our culture has stagnated due to greed that does not allow any competing energy other than petroleum or nuclear. We talk alot about renewable energy, but I have heard that from the 60's and still we are addicted to non renewable. Our efforts to "go green" are a joke. It will take a major catastrophy to get us to change. Unless peoples whole concept of the earth and how we interact with it changes we are like yeast in a vate. Drowning in our own waste. Peace is the only answer.

What can we do to make the earth a better palce?

You, Mr. Martin, are the most open minded Christian I have ever had the pleasure of conversing with.  I just wanted you to know that.

To make the world a better place we need to get over ourselves and our ideas.  If the Muslim would realize that he prays to the same God as the Christian, and the Christian the same God as the Hindu, there would be a start.  It is ignorance and superstitious belief that holds the religions of the world down.  They need to get over the past and adapt to the future.  There is one God.  Call it Jehovah, call it Allah, call it skippety-do-dah.  Religion is the biggest influence on culture, and culture is the biggest influence on society, and society is the biggest influence on state.  If something needs fixed you have to change certain parts in order to fix it.  :\

The word says Love thy neighbor. That is the same if they live next door or in another country. Or in another galaxy. Thanks for the complement. I am a realist. There is a big difference between religion and a realitionship with our Creator. Jesus has many names. Prince of peace, Lord of Lords, God. It is not the name that is important even though the word says name above all names, but our life and how we chose to interact with other people.

As far as your question? I believe politics and religion are some of the dirtyist businesses that exist. Both promise to better your future at a price. As to which president etc. I believe we ought give all of them a shot, but it should be  on toilet paper.

Sorry it took awhile to respond. I have Leukemia and I got really sick again. Thanks to antibiotics I am doing better.

any answer i make here is purely speculative and i hereby give myself the right to speculate and make assumptions in this philosophical pondering.

from a purely physical perpsective, I dont think it is possible for human kind to "destroy" the planet given the size of our collective footprint upon the earth and in relation to the size of the universe in which we exist. however the planet could be damaged by our collective stupidity to the point that it may not be so accomodating to the human species.  thus the question maybe rephrased can we save ourselves from ourselves.

given that the word says something along the lines of we are the temple of the almighty living god, we can know that god dwells within us and the word also tells us that we exist with in the temple of the father.

For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

in which case this world that we are destroying is the body of our true spiritual ourselves, it is not possible for us to destroy it, only our existence within it as we destroy what we currenlty identify as ourselves.

will humanity destroy itself before it discovers, experiences and exists with divinity in a physical existence?
And the  LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as  one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

Actually you are correct I should have phrased the question more succinctly. Destroying the planet would change the very composition of the universe. One possibility is that all the nuclear weapons will result in it becomeing a star and thus our solar system will become a binary star system. Who knows?
An old saying that there are no Athiests in fox holes comes to mind. This is speculation. I believe as the results of our abuse of our planet become more apparent and things become more dire. That more people will seek devine guidance. This is born out by the past where when distasters or wars happen people turn to God for help. Again it comes back to what is we? Our physical bodies will all disappear eventually, but our inner soul and spirit they are eternal. So one way or another everyone will have at least a glimps of the devine. "Every knee will bough and every tongue confess" So we are at the same crossroads. The definition of itself and destruction. I am not worried. I know where I am going. If this world or at least the human race et all lasts another 10,000 years or it lights up like a Christmas tree. I will still be in Heaven. Of this I have no doubt!

Another Question? Lets SEEEEE! Will it be possible for machines to become sentiant or at least as aware as lets say a simple life form? I understand they can react to stimuless already. I am talking self aware. Not just doing what they are programed to do, but be able to actually learn on their own.

Sorry it took awhile to respond.
What makes you think I was waiting for you?  ;)

Will it be possible for machines to become sentiant or at least as aware as lets say a simple life form?
I have read about the Technological Singularity ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity ), which some people may run in fear at, but I feel that such an outcome is moot.  If it happens, it happens.  Though robots in that scenario are not exactly on-par with human sentience, they could formulate thoughts of their own.  But that does not equal spirituality; not in any means of the word.  And said robots would have the Heat Death to worry about ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_death ).  So even in the end, those robots would be fated to transience.

What is your favorite song?

[edit]
I just wanted to state that I'm not a proponent or firm observer/fearer of the "Technological Singularity" movement.   :)  Just answering the question.

Pert-5 : You posted 2 questions. So I will answer the first even though it was meant in fun. I didn't actually think you were waiting for me. I was just being polite and giving some back ground. LOL!

Favorite Song? That is really difficult to say. I like so many and it changes with my mood and circumstance. I would have to make a list. I like:
How Great Though Art. As a Spiritual song.
John Lennons Imagine. As an inspirational song.
What am I Gonna Do Without You by S. Earl Martin as a Patriotic song. It is on You Tube
The list could keep going, but I believe that is enough.
I looked at the references you posted. Very interesting.
I really find this sight useful. To actually converse with other intellegent people and get their perspectives is most facinating.

That is a complex question.  It depends on the degree to which I can observe the person in question.  If I choose you, specifically, Earl, then I can see every move you make....  :P  j/k

That's 2 questions. No I am not a physicist. At least not professionally. I am an inventor and have been working on different things all my life. I have made some break thrus, but no one in the profession will even consider my work. With one exception. I explained a device I have built and drew a diagram for a physicist that is from a local university. At first he doubted my information. I challanged him to give me one reason it wouldn't work. When he couldn't he became interested. I gave him the diagram and my #. He gave me his # and told me to call him in 2 weeks. When I called I was told that "his" research was confidential. I saw on the net that he patented  the device and got a large research grant. LOL! That was maybe 5% of what I have discovered. I don't care.

I don't usually criticize myself very much. Unless I really mess up. If I just plain miss the boat so to speak I will be frustrated with myself for days. Sometime even years.

My previous question was meant retorically. LOL!

What was the most fun you ever had?

You`re an inventor?!You`re a happy person! In my childhood, listening my physics teacher, I always wanted to invent something!:)
Your story affected me!It`s difficult to believe  that you don`t care, but it`s obviously that you `re a strong person.

What year did this happen?
I don`t know. It`s too difficult question for me. One cannot know the inside of a man`s mind :)

I will answer Voodoos questions even though they ignore mine repeatedly.
The device allowed a form of super conductivity to be done. The person I showed it to combined it with other technology to improve how the original process works. As to what year I don't remember. So if you were going to do a patent search you are out of luck LOL!

Money like power can spoil or corrupt people very easily. That is one of the reasons I don't care if he used the information. Or that he got the grant. I just hope that the information is used in a positive way.

Being Bi Polar I show the manic side in public. The other side I keep pushed down pretty deep. I have been told I am a strong person. When my wife died I took care of her for 2 years and very seldom left her side. It almost killed me and people asked how I could be that devoted to another person. I quoted Paul from the word of God about Love. I thank you for the compliment.

I apologize for trammeling the flow of this thread, but I just had to interject that what I quoted seems awfully akin with Gnana Yoga.  Which got me to thinking about the relationship between Gnana Yoga and Modern Physics.  Perhaps I should begin to peruse that ancient book by Fritjof Capra called "The Tao of Physics."  Hmm...

Glib answer:  Small penises?
Erudite answer:  There is an aspect of paranoia applied to the Ego of the bully which causes them to believe they need to dominate or else they are worthless.

In my opinion. People have difficulty admiting their faults because they preceive it as weakness. Although I see it as if we don't admit our faults or short comings we won't try and improve ourselves.

Here is a personal one. I am very sick today because of a reaction to the contrast I had to take yesterday for the tests I had done. Should I continue to fight this Leukemia or just let it kill me?

only if it was everyone's policy, and humans as a whole could lighten up a bit. otherwise, it would not be beneficial due to the nature of different individuals, as things stand today. even if someone were 100% honest, most would be unable to be thankful for the straight honesty. little white lies arent always bad here and there at least i suppose.

if you had to guess/estimate, how long would you give humans until they accomplish interstellar travel? efficiently that is. like actual colonization and travel between planets.

That is a difficult choice. A new universe of peace and enlightenment would probably be my choice.

Either that or I would wish for unlimited wishes.
