Obama so far
« on: May 18, 2009, 11:12:10 AM »
This section seemed to focus on mostly what happened before the election. I wonder how people are feeling now that Obama has won the presidency? One of my concerns was that "nothing changes". That's because we have a system of professional politicians. They have their subculture with its rules and one of those rules is "remain in power". This post relates to psychology in that we are watching the behavior of small groups, and I'm not seeing much changing.

I agree with you on the psychological part. I think that Obama uses a lot of psychology to influence people(before and after elections). In some ways, he is still campaigning. But, I guess more and more people are more aware....they want to see results...no more talking

Thank you for your reply. I have a hypothesis that the world's governments are going to fall apart. (To be clear, I'm not wishing for this and I'm against violence.) This will come because of the access to information people now have with the internet. We can use the internet (hopefully) to unite, but also we're using the internet to be more critical of our leaders. Obama is being exposed, yet I'm optimistic he'll use that feedback to make positive changes.

as an outsider, living in the UK (trying to make sense of our own political fallout) i dont believe Obama has had long enough in office yet to make any significant changes. Obama came in to power with the US economy in a complete mess, not to mention the two military campaigns he has inherited (iraq and afganistan)

i say, give him time and give him a chance.

have you seen what is happening in the uk. our politicians have been claiming expenses for the most ridiculous things and all of a sudden freedom of information has meant that there expense claims have been made public. claiming for second homes, the tax payer paying the morgtgage on a second home which they then sell and keep the profit.  one MP has claimed for a mortgage which had already been payed off.  the tax payer has been footing the bill for our politicians to every whim and fancy. one MP claimed expenses for a porn movie he watched in a hotel.  two MPs claimed over £200,000 (of tax payers money) for second homes, while each one lived in the others house and claimed second home allowance on the other.
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

I agree with you about the internet.

I have read some of the posts in the internet about Obama ....some of them are truly hilarious. I read them at times just to laugh. But, the point is that internet is a means of expressing people 's feelings...so, as you said, it is up to Obama how he takes it...

Too true.  Politics has become just another business.  Another victim of unregulated capitalism.  This is no longer a government by the people and for the people.  Its for the businesses by the businesses.

Obama inherited a gigantic shitstorm that will take years to right itself.  However, no amount of politics can reduce rampant overpopulation, globalization, and unregulated capitalism that plagues the human race.

Agreed, but a long journey begins with a single step. And we are all responsible for taking that step together. Today, I left my air conditioner turned off despite the rising temperature. It's a tiny thing, but at least I care.
