Focalin Switched from Time Release to Regular
« on: June 02, 2008, 07:20:43 PM »
Focalin is prescribed to one of my children.  The generic name is dexmethlyphenidate <--that's ridiculous

I want to share a little "happy" result with you.

My son was on Focalin Time Realease and I wanted to up the medication a bit more, but there are concerns with heart health in medications like these.  So, as an alternative I asked the doctor to switch son from the extended release version of ten mg to a twice a day regimen of five mg.  The doctor said okay, lets try it and maybe we can up his dosing in a few months as he will be another year older by that time. (since initiating treatment).

Anyhow, the doctor recommend : Do not give the Focalin after 1pm.  no problem.

The gravy of this situation is I have seen a miracle happen with the dosing change.

Now what caused this to be, I do not know!

SO, 10 mg XR versus 5mg 2 times a day.  ??
It really does make a difference.
imagine that.

What exactely happened he magically changed when you changed the time of his doses that sounds ridiculous. The kid wants some attention he will start to act up sooner or later then what? blame it on somebody else?

No, not changing the TIME of his dosing.

Focalin is like Ritalin.  Focalin comes in two different types of pills.

Some pills are considered TIME RELEASE, which means that they do not hit your system all at once and they will disolve over TIME in your system.  Therefore, you can take one pill that will have (supposedly) the same amount of medication as two pills that are given in the same time span.

The other pills of Focalin that I'm using now, are NOT TIME RELEASED.  They go right to his system without having to wait for them to RELEASE (or break down) into his system.

I did not change the TIME OF DAY, but rather, changed the type of PILL.

No, I do not blame other people for his actions.  He has a little bit of weird thing going on in his chemical makeup.  I give him constant attention you see, because if I didn't, he would inadvertantly get hurt because he climbs the walls.  I hope you understand this process more clearly now.  This is MORE than a misbehavior.
imagine that.
