Hello There~
« on: March 11, 2009, 12:31:52 AM »
Hi there.  I found this forum when scrolling through a search engine.  Glad I found it - it looks like a nice place.

I'm a psychology major in college (though a freshman, so I don't know that much yet), so for now, I'll probably be doing a lot more reading than talking.  Once I improve though, I may put forth my own opinion more often. xD

Call me Yonder, please.

Thanks, everyone. =)

Corwin137: It's interesting to me because I like knowing how things work, and the brain is just one of the best things to tinker with. xD (Meaning that cog. science for me is a main focus.)

SWM:  Hehe, it's pretty cut-and-dry, the system.

Enigma:  Thanks. xD  Calvin and Hobbes has been one of my favorite comics since I was a little kid.  I go to a two year college at the moment, though I'm going to transfer after next year to finish up a bachelor's degree.

Heh, I grew up on Calvin and Hobbes and The Far Side.  I'm in the same boat, I'm in community college now then I'm off to finish up at a 4 year school in the fall.

well, am yet to be convinced. you have "psyD's" or some thing like that ??? and then "majors" and "minors" ???

UK system is cut and dry, you take a degree in psychology (or other subject).  thats it. unless you want to study further. then you take a masters, phd, etc

Enigma:  So did I, but Garfield was in there a lot as well. xD  Ah, you're a year ahead of me then.  I still have another year to go before I can transfer.

SWM:  As far as I know, that's just the name of the doctorate level for psych. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong. >w> )  I don't have minor yet, so I don't know much besides that it's pretty much a sub-catagory you study just like a major, only there aren't as many classes to do on it.  And the order goes the same here - bachelors, masters, doctorate.

i see, so the minors and majors would be modules, do you have modules there?

i suppose my major module at the minute is called "culture and process in primary care mental health", thats a one year module, would that be my major?

I'm afraid I can't answer that with any confidence, sorry. xD;;  I've never heard the term 'module' in education before, so I don't know how it would compare.

But from how you describe it, it sounds like they could be similar, possibly, maybe.  I suppose that'll be something I can look up on a rainy day.
