What makes us like "strange" things?
« on: September 20, 2009, 09:21:05 PM »
What makes us like "strange" things?

For example, I like yaoi. Many people are disgusted by it and think it insanely wrong, whilst I like it.

I was just curious as to what actually makes us like things that other people don't?
Ignore the email LOL. I'm using my sisters cause I haven't got one...I really need to get one sorted out.

Liking things other people don't is most commonly a mechanism used to establish a sense of identity.

Well, I looked up "yaoi" because  I had no idea ...any way, it appeaas that this animation has so many followers so you are not so strange and I am not certain that "yaoi" is strange. Apparently it is written by women and relationship is the main theme . I supose the fact that is is all abot homo erotic relationships could be seen as strange since I never hear remales talking much about their homo (male) erotic ideas. but maybe the story lines give what other male based stories do not. Like more romance maybe...that seems very common, the attraction to romance with erotic in the mix. so often these two are separated apart.

Well, after looking up this "Yaoi"...

Quote
Yaoi (????)[nb 1] is a popular term for female-oriented fictional media that focus on homoerotic or homoromantic male relationships, usually created by female authors. Originally referring to a specific type of d?jinshi (self-published works) parody of mainstream anime and manga works, yaoi came to be used as a generic term for female-oriented manga, anime, dating sims, novels and d?jinshi featuring idealized homosexual male relationships. The main characters in yaoi usually conform to the formula of the seme (literally: attacker) who pursues the uke (literally: receiver).

I think interest in that as a man is a sign of homosexuality.

Many of the followers are in fact female, whilst I am not. That's a reason why I think it might be strange for me to like it.
I already know that I am bisexual, I've known since I was around 12 years old. Does this explain why I like it?

Aah. I wonder what it is that makes people attracted to people of the same sex. I've heard some people say it's genetic, yet none of my family are gay/bisexual/lesbian. Not that I know of anyway.

Well, the supposed gay gene is recessive, and rarely takes effect.

At this point, all of us have the gay gene in us, so anyone could be born gay or bi sexual.

I think you like those strange things while others not because you have seen something unique at it...You appreciate what had caught your attention...Maybe as simple as that...
