meditation always seems to be a good place to start personal development or self help. relaxation techniques, things like yoga and tai chi.

I think prayer and meditation can help one find peace.  Self reflection can help someone focus on the areas in need of attention.

I've gone to stress management and depression coping classes.  These are excellent ways of helping one change their outlook and attitude on life.

I was told by a mentor that there are 3 things that shape people:  The books they read, the music they listen to, and the people they associate with.  If one reflects on these current aspects of their lives, they can decide how they'd like these things to better influence their lives and therefore help improve their outlook.
