IQ and Synapse Variations
« on: December 08, 2009, 03:51:29 AM »
What is the variation in number of synapses in the human cortex, and what is the relation between this number and IQ?

The answer to your question at this point in time is unknown.  For my job I do research into the functional links in cerebral and neuronal circuitry and to just begin to figure out the answer to your question we need at least twenty more years of research on our backs.

Sorry.  I wish the scientific establishment was along further than it is more than anyone else I know.

Number of neurons is not correlated with higher intelligence, however, higher numbers of glial cells are correlated with higher intelligence.

Very interesting question, and a surprising answer. WilliamVon, is there any way you can elaborate a bit more on this? I'm actually not familiar with much research on the link between synapses and psychology. I'd love to hear more from someone working with it.

That's not what he's asking, though.
