Intelligence Quotient
« on: June 16, 2008, 10:28:30 AM »
An intelligence quotient or IQ is a score derived from a set of standardized tests developed to measure a person's cognitive abilities "intelligence" in relation to their age group. IQ tests do not measure intelligence the way a ruler measures height , but rather the way a race measures speed Also, IQ tests measure actual performance, not innate potential. Among the middle class of industrial societies, IQ is highly heritable, and by adulthood the influence of family environment on IQ is undetectable. IQ test scores are correlated with measures of brain structure and function, as well as performance on simple tasks that anyone can complete within a few seconds. IQ is strongly correlated with academic success, but can also predict important life outcomes such as job performance, socioeconomic advancement, and "social pathologies".

And to add to this--IQ is not a determinant of success either. Heredity versus environment issues play into this...because as many people know, this is why the terms "book smart" and "street smart" exist.

The focus on IQ is interesting because of the Scientology religion now.  That is a psycological exploration in itself.  I find that the speed factor of IQ tests is unreliable.  I know there are many IQ tests on the internet that are not accurate.  Are there other accessible IQ tests than one administered by a professional?
