I have looked all over the web and I have found nothing.
( I do not have any mental afflictions that could cause would cause these feelings.  My family has no history of that either.)
I have a  fairly normal life with an amazing family and mostly stable friendships.  I am in high school(also known as hell) and get pretty good grades.

I have always had this feeling of missing wings.  Some of the very first dreams I can remember we of flying.  I  remember many of these dreams and the only difference between them and the real life would be the wings.   Many times i would wake up and look behind me and expect wings to be their.  By about age 7 the dreams were less often but they also changed.  I would hover above the ground or could barely fly or not at all.  I woke up crying a couple times because I new that the wings were not there.  All the time, these dreams were very realistic and sometimes I was 99% sure that if I ran fast enough or jumped in the air high enough that I would stay there(And when I say jump in the air I simply mean like jumping rope, not of a high place).
I'm 15 now and this still haunts me in a way. The dreams are gone but  many times there is a feeling that there should be wings on my back.   The muscles in my back feel tingly like they are ready and waiting to fly.  The tingly feeling also feels like a potential energy that I cannot get to and will sometimes spread through out my arms and legs.  It feels l the same as a wild bird would feel if you clipped its wings.

I have heard of phantom limbs where people swear they could still feel their amputated limps still.  I feel like some one took my wings and all I have is the phantom memory of them.  It makes me angry sometimes, but mostly just sad.  I knew someone who always told me that they were born in the wrong body.
She told me that she was supposed be born a boy.  I can relate to that, I feel like I am slightly different like that too.

While I am Typing this I realize how completely crazy  I sound. If someone else Had posted this I would probably judge them as a little of balanced.  I hope that when you read this you can be a little more open minded them I am sometimes.  Im not sure what my objective i in writing this is but if you know of any thing like a book or webpage that could help me under stand this I would be very greatful.

This is some jumbled info about me but if it helps it's here. I am very opened to all religions and beleifs.  I was brought of christian and go to church but do not identify myself as one.  I think of my self as creative yet rational.  I dont beleive in things like vampires or faries or and  Im not superstitious at all.

What your saying is not completely crazy. A lot of people wish/feel their dreams are reality. You should actually post this in the dream discussion forum, you will get very good responses there.

There is no reason for you to second guess yourself, if you truly feel that you can fly perhaps you will find a way for humans to fly freely as individuals. I'd support that cause.
Also, If you ever do give up on the idea of being able to fly, don't give up on your imagination. The world needs more creativity.

Sky, I can identify with this desire to defy gravity and fly that you describe.   For as long as I can remember, my most pleasant dreams have been those in which I find myself building up speed as I run, like an aircraft on its takeoff roll, and then, when I reach that magical speed, I take to the air as naturally as would a bird.  Waking up from those dreams is always a let down, because it always feels so natural to fly.

Not surprisingly, I developed an obsession for aviation at an early age, which continues to this day, even though I never did become a pilot as I had always dreamed.   Fortunately for me and thousands of others with a passion for flight, the Microsoft Flight Simulator is an absolute masterpiece of computer wizardry that places you in the cockpit of anything from the tiny Robinson R22 helicopter to the massive Boeing 747 passenger jet, while seated at your computer desk.

Dirt cheap at 14 US dollars a new copy, the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 version (FS9) works much better on most computers than does the more recent edition, FSX.   Get yourself a copy, Sky, and learn to fly an airplane, even if you aren't planning on a career in aviation.  There is a world of true-to-life learning in that computer program, and if you want to go deeper and master the precedures used by real pilots, there are canned lessons that will step you through the basics of takeoffs, landings, turns, stall recovery, VOR navigation, instrument flight rules and much more.

If you are able to talk your folks into investing a little more money on a very worthwhile hobby that is NOT a video game by any means, then I highly recommend buying at least one ultra-realistic addon aircraft for FS9, of which the most detailed by far is the Level D 767-300 jet.  This product can be purchased for $50 as a direct internet download, or in a CD version.   With that aircraft you can familiarize yourself with the entry of flight plans into the Flight Management Computer, the sequence of steps needed to start up those massive engines from a cold and dark state, and a wealth of other flying skills that will give you an ENORMOUS head start if you ever decide to enrol in flight school or air force in the future.

Go for it !  Don't stop at just deaming of flight.  Become a virtual pilot, and then maybe a real one, if you progress to be as absorbed by the hobby as I suspect you will.

hi sky,

welcome to the forum. :)

i have dreams of flying too. there is song or poem by jim morrison of the doors that says something like. "death makes angels of us all and gives us wings were we had shoulders smooth as ravens claws."

this song used to make me think about what it would be like to have those wings.

the flight that i have in my dreams is as easy as willing myself through my mind to go where i think and my body follows as though my body was weightless which of course it would be because it is made of my imagination.

the only thing i can think you might find useful is a book called conscious dreaming, i will find out the author and the full title when i get a chance to look at my bookshelf.

all sound bizarre but that is the world of dreams and the unconscious mind.

Thank you for the book suggestion,  ive never heard of conscious dreaming(unless you mean daydreams to nullify some of my less interesting teachers)

A bit before I reached middle school I had some blurred lines between real life and fiction. It wasnt that I expected there to me unicorns in my room but that I found the idea very desirable.  I have very clear lines between that now.
Though I have barely scratched the surface of psychology I love it and so far I have noticed that most things are caused by another event or events in the past.   After reading some more I was wondering what my feeling of wings could be caused by.   I think it might be my desire to have my world go back to how it was when I was younger and every thing was alot more innocent.  I really have no idea... The one thing I do know is that I would like this feeling to go away.  Accepting that I just can't have something is NOT one of my strong points I looked through many common and obscure types of documented emotions and  I still can't give it a better word then "feeling".  All I can think of is that it is sad and lonely, yet with some odd other thing.  The more I think about it, Its obvious to me that this is not just about wings... :-*

Perhaps conscious dreaming is akin to or cognate with lucid dreaming, or maybe it's more along the lines of meditation.  I'm not sure what the author means, maybe SWM would know.  (I'm a big freakin' help, aren't I?  ;) )

conscious dreaming in the book by robert moss is the same as lucid dreaming from what i understand.

the book describes ways to become conscious in dreams and then use those dreams to develop spiritually. there is a lot of practical and instructional shamanic wisdom in this particular book and involves a way to develop what other people call astral projection.

I get what you're saying, but others may not, so I'll elucidate.  There is lucid dreaming, astral projection (rising on the planes), and etheric projection (or real-time projection).

Lucid Dreaming is the process of being aware that you are dreaming while still in a dream.  Stephen LaBerge is a good person to research if someone is interested in this phenomenon.  Basically what you want to do is record your dreams as soon as possible after they occur.  This increases "dream recall," or the ability to remember specific details about your dreams.  From this you want to look for recurring episodes or events, and then train yourself to look for these to occur in dreams to trigger your awareness.

Astral Projection is the projection of one's consciousness into realms that are inherently non-physical.  This practice is distinct from daydreaming or imagination because of its ability to be objectively scrutinized by others.  Books such as "777" and others provide correlative charts which can help discern whether or not an astral projection was "real" or a fantasy.  This is a very stinted outline on my part.  If anyone wishes to learn more please feel free to PM me.

Etheric Projection entails the act of decapacitating the body while keeping the mind fully aware.  This differs from lucid dreaming and astral projection in that the event occurs fully and interactively in the physical world--only you are not physical.  There is much (not really) debate in the scientific community as to the credibility of this phenomenon, but then again, cristions dominate the religious scene, so I wouldn't put anything past anybody.  The basic method is to relax the physical body to a complete state of stasis.  By focusing on kinesthetic sensation to tell you when this occurs you can keep the consciousness aware by espying what goes on during this process.  There are several stages to keep an eye out for in regards to having your awareness stay intact.  This practice takes a while to master, and should be researched to a greater extent before trying, but is doable.

Here is a very helpful book (pdf) on this topic by a Dr. Don DeGracia:

well, reality depends upon perception, and perception mainly depends on our senses. since we are all different people, we have different perceptions, even though our organs are similar, if not identical. Therefore, what one person sees does not equate to what another sees, whether or not it is the exact same thing. Therefore, since you live in reality, this means that you percieve the world around you, if there even IS a world, see, we can be naught but a single celled organism that is 'percieving' all this, in some way.

Therefore, it is perfectly ok, to think that you should have wings on your back, as reality is something that can be manipulated, or fabricated, as reality composes of what our senses gather.

That said, your mental self, your soul, without any perception or anything, I'd call it something like pure energy, is trying to basically percieve that you have wings, or should have. It is perfectly natural to be like this, as amputees usually 'think' they have an extra limb, but they don't.  The reason WHY they think so, is because before the amputation, the reality of the world had always been with four limbs. When this reality, the perception and feeling of your arm, is taken away, your soul/brain sees this sudden change as a glitch of sorts, and deletes this irregularity, therefore, it is perfectly normal to percieve that you should have wings.

If YOU percieve it, it becomes reality. It's similar to believing a lie to tell it well, but, it is very true, as reality = perception, and perception = just about anything, therefore reality = just about anything

Sky, I have almost the exact same feeling. I ran across your post when looking for reasons why I feel wings. Hopefully you will read this as it has been a year since you posted. I have come across the term Auric wings. I feel this may be what I feel, as well as you. Please pm me or email me if you wish to talk more about it. Im still new to the topic of Auric wings as I am still researching it. But I hope maybe that Auric wings is a key word that will help you.

Angel wings? How come they don't opt for teleportation or jet-pack? They that far behind the times? Maybe when angels were 'conceived', teleportation and jet -packs were unheard of; but birds were already around.
Anyone missing or want a unicorn horn?
Just joshing.

Justbecause you may live a normal life, doesn't mean 1 of your intelligences can be abnormal. In neurology it's described how intelligences can either work independantly or together.

I belive you suffer from a Obsessive Compulsion, you can either fight it or come to terms with it.

Try to parachute, or even have a mini jetpack with or without wings, there are many modern options for human flight.
