Classical Conditioned applied to Math.
« on: May 03, 2010, 03:18:05 AM »
Hello everyone!

I was thinking the other day about classical conditioning and how it plays a key role in which subjects we take interest later in life (Example: History). If we are exposed to a subject while under positive environments, we will like the subject.

I was wondering if it possible to do this for a subject that you hate, in order to make it something you like. What if you hate math, and you want to change that. Is it possible to do something to condition good positive euphoric feelings with math?

My main idea would be to do enjoyable things while doing math. Like eating while you do math (Serotonin is released when eating). After doing that for so long, when you do math without eating, you will get that same serotonin release.

Would this work? If you have any other ideas, please feel free to add ideas.  :)

Thanks in advanced,

George Costanza once tried this experiment on a well-known sitcom, and it does work.  More scientifically astute observers would call it "positive reinforcement."  I call it "cool shortcut."  But ultimately, it works, very well.  Just gotta apply it at the right place at the right time.
