I know from my experience that playing an instrument can be very gratifying and provide a sense of accomplishment. I think it's especially good to have at least a modest repertoire of songs if possible.

I think that even improvising could be very therapeutic to some people who are interested in that form of expression.

hi,
this is a very good point.
even without a musical instrument or very simple instruments just making a noise in different tones is very cathartic, i find a lot of self expression in drumming and tapping on random things just to make a rythm, i find myself doing this a lot and i love the rythm i make.

i remember hearing somewhere cant remember where, a long time ago now. that people who tap their fingers are listening deeply to their own minds, that they are tuning in to their own natural processes. dont know how true that is, but enjoy doing it.

oh! and singing, loud, and badly, often in crazy voices, which really winds my gf up.
And the  LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as  one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
