Are there any risks associated with hypnotherapy?
« on: June 17, 2008, 06:57:29 AM »
Yes,but before considering hypnotherapy, you must obtain a proper diagnosis from a physician to understand what is being treated. This is especially true if your condition is psychological in nature (for example, a phobia or anxiety), in which case it is important to first be evaluated by a psychiatrist. Without an accurate diagnosis, it is possible that hypnotherapy may exacerbate your symptoms. Also, very rarely, hypnotherapy leads to the development of "false memories" fabricated by the unconscious mind; these are called confabulations.

So, if I have a phobia of heights, hypnotherapy may help me to overcome that?  What do they actually do in the hypnotherapy?  What does it include?

It has to do with the power of suggestion. When your unconscious mind is fed suggestions it tends to become part of your conscious actions. Therefore it may very well help you to overcome a fear of heights.
