Anyone worked with criminals ? Prison counselling.
« on: September 26, 2009, 03:29:24 PM »
Hi,

i am looking for links answers to a particular mental set, sociopath or criminal mentality?

Any papers , management models  etc............

How to manage a person who will lie , steal and deceive and is clever enough to rarely get caught.
Thrives on drama and conflict and has great drive.

Practical application of what some might have covered in their studies.
Surely some of you will come in contact with the criminal type in your work?

read on,

Wondering if this falls in someones area as the anti-social behavior i describe is beyond my understanding in what to do?
But i do think some will recognise the situation.

We have a farm in Australia in a area where many people are related and although i am there nearly each day , we dont live on the property.
Over the last 6 years we have had perhaps 150 sheep stolen despite being id tagged, never a call to say they have strayed.
She has land which has use of far and wide so it is impossible to know where the animals go.
Neighbours say nothing as she is a local girl.
A woman who is publicly notorious for stock theft has caused endless trouble for us in cutting fences , leaving gates open and impounding stock. Nothing you do seems to stop the woman. We have now locked all the gates and this seems to have slowed things down.
The RSPCA has investigated her many times for animal cruelty , she runs 150 horses on land where there is no grass, we have been in drought for the last 10 years.
*Vexatious litigant as well who thrives on conflict that would terrify others.
It is said that she is not happy where there is no conflict.
She grew up in the area and treats all the properties as her own and would come and go as she pleases if the gates were not locked.
Compulsive liar with some knowledge of the law in particular the grey areas.

Family and her friends of the criminal class, brother been to jail, friends and she has been to court over theft issues.

Overtly sexual person who uses charms to manipulate others to her effect.

She took a dislike to me as stood up to her over matters.

You imagine her life full of conflict and litigation would get on top of her but it seems to give her energy?
How do you deal with these kind of people?

I treat the matter as a game but the stakes get higher and more anti-social as time goes on.
What is the limit for these kind of people and what stops them?

Probably i am dealing with a socio-path!

Any views ?

Regards
Horton

I was just reading your forum, and even though you gave personal opinions about her, I am not so clear on the legal situation you have. I understand your frustration, but how are you sure that it is this woman? It is important to make a report with every disturbance or 'entry, theft, vandalism,' that occurs on your property. Even if the police claim to not be able to charge anyone with the incident due to lack of evidence, it is still important to have all of this information on file. I am also curious why she still has animals if the RSPCA have come to her home several times, that is sad. Someone like this must be charged with something before anyone can 'stop,' her because if she does not realize she is doing something wrong and has yet not been 'caught,' doing anything, there is no probable cause to have anyone try to help her in anyway. Sadly there are people like this in our world, but like you, I am not someone who just sits back and allows them to step on my toes because I'm sure as you, we were raised differently then to go through other peoples property. I dont know many details about your personal incounters with her over the situation or her at all, but it seems to me by just your text that she has a problem. If it were me, I would call EVERY time there is theft, (even if it is one sheep), vandalism or entry because if it happens often, it will be a stronger case if it ever came down to a legal issue if you were to at one point catch her in an act because you would have all your police records at hand. I would even talk with a police officer and tell him your issue and see what advice he offers. As far as psychologist, unfortunately we cannot send the people we consider 'crazy,' to seek professional help...although I would love that! :) At least you know not to socialize with her and to stay away from her, but speaking with a local police officer for personal advice seems like it would be very helpful.

A fair bit has transpired since you wrote.
Police and the mental health issues are a difficult mix. Plus the fact people are reluctant to take on a vexatious litigant who has more energy and cunning than them.

The apathy by the various authorities who need absolute proof, but are too stupid to build a decent case is very frustrating.

Always the responsibility falls on the victim.

i must have caused some trouble for her as she came up to my property while i was at work to work near the fence and later shot 3 cars to bits!
As i pointed out to the police no other person has access to this point and the property owner is responsible for fire arms offences.

Again situation of apathy.

Hi Horton,
A common goal for people such as you describe, as you mentioned, is to elicit a negative emotional response from innocent community members. I'd suggest avoiding any sort of interaction with her, and Liliflower mentioned, document any crimes you believe she has committed. Keep giving the evidence to the police, and be very polite with them. If they can't help right away, they will soon be able to if you are diligent about putting together your evidence.
Best!

As often happens police and criminals are often linked in their relationships.
Police become compromised where they  do not keep professional distance.
Poor moves such as having social connections outside of work make it difficult for the law to be implemented.

Horses on police ground owned by culprit make it difficult to press for trespass elsewhere, bike riding and family connections............
Community complaints and mine fall on deaf ears.
Then police close ranks to defend their own.

Then you also have apathy from those in the community who rest on the attitude of.
"Glad it is not me!"
Or,
"Mildy funny and gossipy."
Not as simple as you might think?

I see. I am not familiar with the law in your country, although I am familiar with the Universal Law of "Complain One Level Up". Do you know who the next highest authority is? Perhaps you should consult a lawyer who does not know any of the parties involved for additional help.
I'm afraid that's the best advice I can offer you! My second career choice was Law :)

Can you please explain this and why?
